• The Kill Team League: Official Rules (Spec Ops Edition)
  • 1. Faction Selection & The “Set Squad” House Rule Set Squads: We are house-ruling a “Set Squad” format instead of a 20-man Command Roster. At the start of the league, players must submit the exact team of operatives they will field (e.g., exactly 10 specific Veteran Guardsmen with their chosen weapon loadouts). You must play this exact same team composition in every match. You cannot swap weapon options or operatives between games to tailor to your opponent. The “Mercenary” Rule: Players are allowed a single opportunity to completely swap to a different Kill Team faction (and submit a new set squad) during the league cycle. Choosing to swap will incur a one-time penalty of -2 League Points from your leaderboard total.
  • 2. Matchmaking & Scheduling The Draw: The league operates on a rolling two-week match cycle. Matchups will be drawn and announced by the league admin at the start of each cycle. Flexible Play: Players may coordinate with their opponent to play their match at any point during store hours within that two-week window. Skirmish Sundays: Sunday afternoons are our dedicated league days! Any player completing their official league match on a Sunday at The Lizard’s Lair will receive 10% off Games Workshop models, paints, hobby supplies, drinks, and snacks for that day. Time Limits & Store Closing: If a game is still ongoing as the store approaches closing time, players must finish the current Turning Point, stop the game, and calculate the final score from that point.
  • 3. Model Representation Official Models: Kill Teams must be represented by official Games Workshop models. Customization: Third-party enhancements (such as custom bases, resin heads, or 3D-printed accessory bits) are absolutely allowed and encouraged to personalize your operatives.
  • 4. League Scoring System At the end of your match, calculate your League Points based on both your victory margin and your tactical secondary play: Major Victory (Win by 4+ VP): 4 League Points Minor Victory (Win by 1-3 VP): 3 League Points Draw: 2 League Points Loss: 0 League Points Tac Ops Bonus: +1 League Point for each Tac Op card you successfully score at least 1 VP on during the game (Maximum of 3 League Points).
  • 5. Spec Ops Progression: Experience (XP) & Ranks As your operatives survive battles and score objectives, they gain XP to represent their growing battlefield experience. Keep track of your squad’s XP on your narrative dataslates. Earning XP: An operative gains 1 XP for each of the following achievements during a game: Incapacitating an enemy operative. Completing a mission action or scoring Victory Points from an objective marker. Completing a condition of a Tac Op. Ranking Up: Operatives start as Adepts (0–5 XP). As they earn more XP, they progress to Veteran (6–15 XP), Ace (16–30 XP), and beyond. Every time an operative ranks up, they earn a Battle Honour, which grants a permanent stat boost, a unique tactical specialism, or rare equipment.
  • 6. The Cost of War: Casualties & Battle Scars If an operative is taken out of action during a match, their survival is not guaranteed. At the end of the game, you must take a Casualty Test for every incapacitated operative. Roll 1D6 for each incapacitated operative. 2–6 (Pass): The operative makes a full recovery and is ready for the next match. 1 (Fail): The operative survives but gains a permanent Battle Scar. This results in a crippling penalty (such as reduced movement, penalized shooting accuracy, or a lowered Action Point Limit). Recovering: A Battle-Scarred operative can choose to sit out the next match to recover (removing the scar). Because we are using Set Squads, if an operative sits out, you may bring a temporary “rookie” replacement of the exact same operative type and weapon loadout with 0 XP for that match.
  • 7. Reporting & Tie-Breakers Reporting Scores: Players can report their match results (and XP updates) directly to staff at the counter or post them in the designated Discord channel. The league admin will monitor all results and publish the updated standings each cycle.
  • Tie-Breaker: In the event of a tie on the leaderboard at the end of the league season, the overall winner will be decided by the highest total cumulative Victory Points (VP) scored across all of their matches.
